Day 1: Alipurduar to Buxa Fort Via Santrabari
Upon arrival at Alipurduar railway station you
are received and driven to Santrabari (914ft), a distance of about 36
Kms from Alipurduar and inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve..
Santrabari is the starting point of your Buxa trek
to Buxa Fort and Lapchakha. From here your 4 km trek to Buxa Fort starts. This trek is
through dense forest, hills and picturesque surroundings and leads one upto the
Buxaduar Forest Bungalow. This place is a haven for nature lovers, bird
watchers and Trekkers.
At Buxaduars, we arrange for the
accommodation of our guests in Dukpa huts. The accommodation is basic, but neat
and clean. Your evening and night will be spent in the
glow of candles and Kerosene lamps as there is still no electricity.
Have lunch and visit the historical
Buxa Fort. Buxaduars is, in fact, famous for its prison fort. This fort was used as a Detention Camp by the British, because of
its remoteness during the Indian Freedom Movement. Many freedom fighters were
imprisoned here. However, after independence, it served as a refugee camp for Tibetans
and Bangladeshis. The fort is in ruins at present, but its historical
significance is hard to miss once you are there.
Thereafter, visit the Buxa Heritage
museum and the Nature Interpretation centre.
You can enjoy a cultural evening
with the locals, the Mangars and the Dukpas, who would be glad to enliven the
evening with their folk renditions over bonfire for a small price. (Optional
Activity)
Overnight stay will be at Dukpa hut at Buxa.
Meal Plan: Breakfast (N), Lunch (Y) Dinner (Y)
Day 2: Trek to Lapchakha via Tashigaon
After breakfast, start your Buxa Lepchakha trek to Lapchakha
via Tashigaon. Tashigaon is the highest village on the Rover’s point Rupam valley trail. This village offers
an enchanting view of the Buxa landscape. It is about one and half hour trek from Buxa
fort.
From Tashigaon, one can take the
core forest route to reach Lepchakha. On the way to Lepchakha, one needs to
make an entry in the BSF register.
Lapchakha often called the "Queen of the Dooars" and an hidden treasure of Dooars is a plateau surrounded by five hills.
It is a place where silence extends its own magic and loneliness finds its true
definition. It is a place
to gaze the clear sky on a full moon night, a place where one can enjoy the
hospitality of the Dukpa community. In
fact, the beauty of Lapchakha lies in the view from the plateau. About 12 rivers flowing through Dooars
starting from Sankosh to the Torsa look like glistening snakes meandering through
the plains below. The night offers a different view when the lights of
Alipurduar town seem to merge seamlessly with the stars all around.
Here too, we arrange for the
accommodation of our guests in homestays. The accommodation again, is basic,
but neat and clean. Your evening and
night will be spent in the glow of candles and Kerosene lamps as there is still
no electricity. Overnight at Lepchakha homestay/Trekker’s
hut.
Meal Plan: Breakfast (Y), Lunch (Y) Dinner (Y)
